Light Horse M7
Colin Polwarth Studio led the urban design for Westlink M7 as an Associate of Conybeare Morrison, designing all visible components of the $1.5 billion motorway. Opened in 2007, the 40-kilometre tolled motorway completed a major section of Sydney's orbital network across Western Sydney and includes a separate 40-kilometre shared path for cyclists and pedestrians. The project features the Australian Light Horse Sculpture Parade, a public artwork dedicated to the heroic troops of the Australian Light Horse and the horses that could never return. The lit mast and crown symbolise a torch in the dark, finished in red — the colour of the Flanders poppy and the poppies that bloomed throughout Palestine — representing the blood of supreme sacrifice.
