The Drying Green

The Drying Green represents a transformative community space in Sydney's Green Square, designed by McGregor Coxall to celebrate the area's rich industrial heritage while creating a vibrant contemporary gathering place. This innovative public realm weaves together historical narratives of the former brickworks and textile industries with modern sustainable design principles, featuring sculptural elements, native plantings, and flexible open spaces that accommodate diverse community activities. The design creates distinct zones for play, relaxation, and social interaction, with carefully considered materials and planting palettes that reference the site's past while establishing a resilient urban landscape for future generations. Filming this project captured both the sweeping scale of this urban transformation and the intimate moments of community life within these thoughtfully crafted spaces, showcasing how landscape architecture can honour history while creating dynamic new environments that bring people together in meaningful ways.
